Americans for Safe Access Sues the Federal Government PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 26 February 2007
scale of justiceThe federal government should have known it was coming.  For more than two years Americans for Safe Access (ASA) has been asking Health and Human Services to correct its erroneous statements that marijuana has no medicinal value. But, the government has either stalled or ignored the request.  Therefore, ASA  sued the federal government last week under the Data Quality Act (DQA) judicial review provisions.

The DQA requires federal agencies to rely on sound science when making decisions, but obviously when it comes to marijuana the FDA and Health and Human Services haven’t complied. One of the patients in the lawsuit cogently said, "The government's refusal to face up to the science is irresponsible and harms citizens like me for whom this treatment is a lifeline."
